Despite a heartbreaking collapse against the Packers, New York Jets fans have plenty of reasons for optimism as the season unfolds. Cornerback Azariah Thomas has turned heads with his improved coverage and physical play, showcasing development that could solidify the Jets' secondary for the future. Linebacker Jamie Sherwood and edge rusher David Bailey also headline a promising group, with Sherwood maintaining consistency and Bailey making his mark with two sacks in as many games.
The real story, however, is the Jets’ powerful run defense—allowing just 65.5 rushing yards per game, thanks to standouts like Harrison Phillips, Juwan Briggs, and the linebacker corps. If the defense maintains this level, could it propel the Jets into playoff contention? As the pass defense also flies under the radar, the synergy between these units may be the key to keeping the Jets competitive throughout the season.
